2SQL solution to multimillion-dollar problem wins national IT Innovation award

South Australian company ConvertU2 has won a Secrets of Australian IT Innovation award for solving one of the most expensive and time-consuming problems facing companies all over the world today.
The problem is migrating from one software system to another in the fast-evolving world of technology. The solution is 2SQL, a software and data conversion engine.
2SQL is one of a suite of solutions being developed by ConvertU2 to address the issues surrounding conversion.
Written entirely in Microsofts next generation development platform .NET, 2SQL is the only automated solution to the task of converting Microsoft Access applications and data to Microsoft SQL Server.
Access is the most popular database platform in the world. It is now being extended to use SQL Server as the preferred database storage medium.
Microsoft Access no longer meets the needs of the market for more power and scalability, says ConvertU2 Director of Business Strategy Greg Nuttall. Add to that new corporate compliance regulations, which have placed further pressure on organisations to secure huge amounts of data.
Today, data that does not reside in SQL Server is a roadblock to future development and business growth.
The paradox is that thousands of organisations are delaying these business-critical migration projects because of the prohibitive cost involved, in terms of both time and money.
Enter 2SQL. 2SQL does in minutes what would otherwise take days, weeks or months to do manually, providing time and cost savings of 80 percent, or a 500 percent return on investment.
To win IT Secrets, ConvertU2 had to submit a written commercialisation plan, followed by a three-minute video pitch for the final round, when a panel of eight judges representing the cream of Australias venture capital and IT community gathered in Melbourne to view the entries.
Competition judge Matthew Michalewicz said that the IT panel had been impressed by ConvertU2s software architects track record in database conversion and successful commercialisation of previous products.
We were also impressed by their partnering business model and existing alliances with Microsoft and their customers both nationally and overseas, said Mr Michalewicz, a technology entrepreneur who recently migrated to Australia as founder and CEO of SolveIT Software.
According to IT analyst Gartner, companies planning on moving their old programs to Microsofts new .NET software need to prepare themselves to pay 40 percent to as much as 60 percent of the cost of developing the programs in the first place. ConvertU2 is solving a very, very big problem.
