Tuesday, January 25th, 2011 - auDA
The .au Domain Administration (auDA), the not-for-profit manager of the Domain Name System in Australia, has today released a series of free websites for communities affected by recent flooding throughout Queensland.

auDA hopes that, during such difficult times, these sites will help communities recover, rebuild and heal, by providing fora for:

* Communicating community events and news
* The provision of links to important information (such as: council links, community recovery resources)
* Sharing stories
* Thanking people

auDA put in place a similar program directly after the 2009 Victorian Bushfires, which proved to be valuable in recovery and rebuilding efforts.

The websites that have been created are:

ipswich.qld.au

charleville.qld.au

stgeorge.qld.au

condamine.qld.au

chinchilla.qld.au

dalby.qld.au

toowoomba.qld.au

grantham.qld.au

goodna.qld.au

emerald.qld.au

gatton.qld.au

foresthill.qld.au

laidley.qld.au

rockhampton.qld.au

The websites that have been created are registered using ‘Community Geographic Domain Names’(CGDNs), a world-first initiative launched by auDA in 2006, that reserves names in the format place.state.au for the exclusive use of local communities.

auDA has communicated this initiative to the office of Premier Anna Bligh, Federal politicians, Mayors and CEOs of Councils across the affected parts of Queensland and relevant disaster and management recovery authorities.

Community members who would like to add information or links to the sites or would like to be involved in learning more about managing the website content themselves, should contact Leonie Dunbar, General Manager of Registrar and CGDN services at: [email protected]
