It appears from obtained correspondences that, Queenscliff businesses that objected to the fundraising activities of the Queenscliff Seafood Feast Inc, have "flip-flopped" and now wish to cash-in on the event.

Local businesses have protested to authorities and the Borough of Queesncliffe of financial hardship and struggling tourism.

With rumors that the event had out grown the small seaside town and could be relocated, It appears the Borough of Queesncliffe has buckled to local business owners demands and refused the event application by the Queenscliff Seafood Feast Inc.

Whilst business owners had strongly objected to the event, the rumor of the event moving has created an urgency to keep the cash cow.

In a hostile takeover, the local business and tourism body QLBT is calling on business owners to cash in on running a similar event. [obtained correspondence]

“The Good Friday Appeal for the Royal Children’s Hospital has become an icon event for our towns in two ways - a major contributor to what is Victoria's keynote Fundraiser for the year - a major tourism event that has obvious benefit to the Business Community also;

This Association submits that an Event Committee be urgently convened to discuss the matter in full - whether along similar lines or as a Seafood Festival at existing venues throughout the Towns with a contribution per purchase” Said Graham J. Christie JP, Chair QLBTA

The Queenscliff Seafood Feast inc is a not-for-profit incorporation and has raised a notable $331,500 for the Good Friday Appeal, is a 100% volunteer organization of over 400, is associated with the Kiwanis Club of Geelong and recognized as the largest Seafood Festival in Australia.

The Borough of Queenscliff is therefore proud to acknowledge the dedicated volunteers and service clubs for their outstanding contributions to the Queenscliff Seafood Feast.

Recognized as the largest Seafood Festival in Australia the Queenscliff Seafood Feast is fast becoming a hallmark event that not only attracts many visitors but also engages the volunteer spirit of our community” Said Bob Merriman, Mayor, Borough of Queenscliff

Whilst “ a contribution per purchase “ sounds more like the Borough of Queenscliff and local businesses using the fundraising event as a commercial opportunity for the cash struck town, the biggest looser will be the Good Friday Appeal.
