Micrel Rolls Out New Family of High Current, Ultra Low Input Voltage LDOs Powering Next Generation Low Voltage Cores
Micrel, Inc. (NASDAQ: MCRL), an industry leader in analog, high bandwidth communications and Ethernet IC solutions, today launched the MIC61150 and MIC61300, 1.5A and 3A LDOs designed for applications that require a low voltage, high current power supply, generated from a single input supply. The devices target point-of-load, ASICs, FPGAs, microprocessors, networking cards and low voltage post regulation applications. The MIC61150 and MIC61300 are currently available in volume quantities with pricing starting at $1.58 and $2.53 respectively, for 1K units. "The ability to adjust output voltages down to 0.5V with input voltages as low as 1.1V, while supplying up to 3A of output current, make MIC61150 and the MIC61300 highly flexible solutions for low V(IN)/V(OUT) applications," noted Doyle Slack, director of analog marketing, Micrel. "Both devices do not require an additional bias supply and therefore offer single supply/input voltage operation -- this greatly enhances design simplicity while reducing the BOM cost for the power supply designer."
The new high-current LDOs operate over an input voltage range of 1.1V to 3.6V. The MIC61150 and MIC61300 feature ultra-low dropout voltages of 200mV and 350mV respectively, over the entire operating temperature range. The regulators are available as a 1V fixed-output voltage option or as an adjustable output voltage option (adjustable down to 0.5V). The devices are stable with low-ESR ceramic output capacitors and include protection features such as thermal shutdown, current limiting and logic enable. The high-current LDOs are offered in two different packages: a low-profile, leadless 10-pin 3mm x 3mm MLF® and a 10-pin ePad MSOP. The devices have an operating junction temperature range of -40degC to +125degC.
