ADELAIDE — 14 December, 2010 — Hitachi Data Systems, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE: HIT), today announced the opening of its first office in Adelaide, Australia, as well as the appointment of Mr. Chris Clarkson as its State Manager for South Australia.

Opening on 3 January 2011, the Adelaide office will enable Hitachi to expand its company footprint and work more closely with partners and customers to help them achieve greater value from their storage and IT infrastructure. The new office will be the eighth Hitachi Data Systems office in Australia and New Zealand, adding to its existing offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane, Perth, Auckland and Wellington.

In his newly-created role, Chris Clarkson will be responsible for managing and growing Hitachi’s solid base of existing partners and customers in South Australia and will be focusing on key industries including resources and mining, defence and government.

“Chris’ experience and knowledge of the Adelaide and wider South Australian market is impressive and exactly what we were after,” said Neville Vincent, Managing Director ANZ at Hitachi Data Systems.

“We are in an excellent position to grow the business by providing better understanding, technical support and resources to help our channel partners and customers build cost-effective and sustainable storage and cloud solutions. This is an exciting opportunity for us moving into 2011,” Vincent said.

Prior to joining Hitachi Data Systems, Clarkson was State Manager at Symantec, where he managed the South Australia operations and was responsible for driving business across the region.
