There’s a lot of hype online about the so-called miracle properties of magnesium when it comes to preventing migraine pain. The internet has many stories to tell about the lack of magnesium the human population suffers today due to our modern farming methods which leach the soil of life giving minerals, but how do we know which stories are true and which are hype.

Recently I sat down with the CEO of one of the worlds leading supplement manufacturers and discussed the pros and cons of Magnesium supplementation for migraines and I got some insightful answers about how it works and the way his company is going about bringing the so called magic to the migrainers of the world, which includes a free 30 day trial of their product.

Mark Linford is CEO of Regenex Laboratories, a New Zealand based company who manufactures one of the worlds biggest selling Magnesium supplements, called Migraine Stop.  Mark can you break down the hype and tell us really why magnesium is good for migraine?

Thanks Richard for the opportunity to speak here.  To put it simply, migraines are caused by irregular blood flow to the brain. In medical terms, as you are familiar with, it’s what is known as vasoconstriction followed by vasodilation and this cycle repeats and causes surges of blood to the brain and sets off a migraine. The triggers can vary but the causal cycle is always the same. Magnesium has the ability to penetrate the soft muscle tissue in the neck and shoulders, relaxing all the muscles in that area, evening out the blood flow to the brain. If you have regular blood flow (like the majority of the population) you then do not get a migraine. It’s that simple.

Well if it’s that simple why don’t the medical world just tell all their patients to take Magnesium?

Oh don’t get me started…. Why indeed? Maybe I am being harsh on the medical fraternity (with all due respect to your profession) and perhaps they know that magnesium on it’s own is poorly absorbed and probably wont help most sufferers, but the sceptic in me says its because they cant write a script for magnesium and so there’s no kick backs in it for them. I am not sure the real answer but all I know is that most of them know that magnesium helps, but very few of them tell their patients about it. From that I’ll let you work out the answer.  

Well you just said magnesium is poorly absorbed and won’t help most people. So I am confused, how do you make it work?

Yes Richard its true that just taking Magnesium on its own probably wont help most people. Magnesium taken orally is usually poorly absorbed by our bodies and we retain only around 20% of it, so a migraine sufferer would have to take massive quantities orally for it to have any effects and that could mean up to 10 or 12 tablets a day. But there is a great deal of research done on magnesium absorption, literally hundreds of studies and a process was discovered a few years ago which dramatically improves the absorption rate of the magnesium by up to 4 times so people now absorb more than 80% of the magnesium in the supplement, if its manufactured using the right process.

So tell us about this process. How is it done and why doesn’t everyone do it?

Well essentially it involves combining Magnesium with Vitamin B6 and in our case we also use Zinc. It’s not a simple process and just taking those things separately won’t work the same. But we have developed the technique to combine them in the right ratio for optimum performance. And we also combined 2 other great compounds, being Cramp Bark and Passionflower, which are essential to the relief process. If I can put my sales hat on here for a moment I can say that our product dosage, which contains 300 mg of bio available magnesium, is the equivalent of someone receiving 600mg of the next leading brand, which is the clinically proven dose for migraine relief.

Well that makes sense. Now I believe your company has come up with a really different method of launching your product into the marketplace. Can you explain how you go about it and why?

Yes we believe so much in the ability of our product to do what we say it will, we give away the first months supply to any sufferer who wants to give it a try. We look at it like this; we could spend hundreds of thousand, and perhaps even millions of dollars on conventional advertising trying to convince people it works, or we can just give it to them for free and let them try. There are no tricks at all. From my experience in online business I know for certain that people are wary of offers like this but we take great care not to attach any conditions. One of the things most people hate is auto-shipping, where companies send you products every month and charge your credit card over and over. We go to great lengths to explain that we do not auto-ship and when it comes time o order the product again its completely up to the customer if they buy again or not. We send out a reminder email to let you know how to order but that’s all we do.
