Beloved canines get bite on healthy fare: Australia’s first Dog Bakery Shop opens
Nothing’s too good for our best friend, and Katherine Heald has proved it by opening Australia’s first Dog Bakery Shop.
Based at Nerang in Queensland, The Dog Bakery serves up fresh organic carob muffins, dog sausages, kangaroo sticks, biscuits, birthday cakes, pies and smoked snouts that will make the most refined canine drool.
Katherine, who has survived breast cancer three times, started out by baking dog biscuits while undergoing treatment.
“I was focused on staying healthy myself and started experimenting with sugar-free and salt-free handmade treats for my own dog and my daughter’s dog," says the new store's owner.
“Now I’m creating special Christmas hampers for the many people who rightly consider their dog to be part of the family.”
For the pooch who really does have everything, the shop also stocks luxury feather bed cushions and designer dog jewellery never before seen in Australia.
Many of these and other new products have been designed by Katherine, who is aiming for a slice of the $4.62 billion spent on pets each year in Australia.
A long-time dog lover, Katherine has also joined Dogbook, a social networking site for dog owners: http://www.dogbook.com.au/. The Dog Bakery's Grand Opening is on December 8, at Shop 30, Centro Nerang shopping centre.
