North Perth, WA, May 19, 2016 – First-year Building Design and Drafting students from North Metropolitan TAFE were on site at Trendsetter Homes’ latest project to learn about heritage adaptive reuse and the challenges of renovating an historic property.

According to Trendsetter Homes Construction Manager, Michael Agostino, it’s vital for design and drafting students to visit building sites to experience designs as they’re being constructed.

“While technology has come a long way in helping us visualize designs in three dimensions, nothing truly compares with seeing a design take shape during construction.”

Nineteen students, guided by Michael Agostino and TAFE lecturer, Brad Ladyman, toured the site to witness Osborne Park based Trendsetter Homes’ latest heritage adaptive reuse project, a renovation style that aims to retain the original character and street frontage of the home whilst extensively renovating and extending the interior of the property.

“The heritage and character of existing buildings has become an important aspect for clients and local councils alike and we’re seeing a lot of growth in the popularity of this style of design and build.  Although it’s considered a renovation, most of the construction work on this project is on par with a complete demolish and rebuild and, in some areas, actually exceeds it.” Michael said.

The two-year project is due to be completed in early 2017.
