MPA Skills principal trainer-lecturer Bob Goodchild has won a $10,000 scholarship for a study tour to South Africa.

The 2010 World Plumbing Council (WPC) educating and training scholarship follows Mr Goodchild’s lifetime in the plumbing and gas industry.

Originally from London, the 56-year-old been employed at MPA Skills for the past 17 years.

WPC chairman Robert Burgon said there had been more applications for the award in 2010, compared to recent years.

“The scholarship panel had an extremely difficult task in coming to a decision as there were several applications of a similar high standard,” he said.

“In selecting Bob Goodchild, the panel took into account what has clearly been a lifelong interest in industry training, as well as his choice of country to visit.

“No previous scholarship winner has visited South Africa and we believe the proposed visit will be worthwhile.”
