Thursday, October 30th, 2008 - Connecting Up Australia

Nonprofit ICT pioneer Community Information Strategies Australia (CISA) has rebranded as “Connecting Up Australia”. CEO Mr Doug Jacquier said that the name change better reflects the Adelaide-based nonprofit’s growing national and international profile.

"As a nation we depend on ICTs more than ever before, and it is essential that our community organisations don't fall behind," Mr Jacquier said. "The digital divide has become a gaping economic divide that has an impact on tens of thousands of Australians, both in metro and remote regions, including Aboriginal communities."

For the past 27 years, this iconic organisation has delivered information and technology know-how to the non-profit sector, with an extraordinary 500,000 unique website visitors turning to them for help each year.

The organisation has supported the community efforts of thousands of nonprofit organisations through initiatives such as  Infosearchweb, Eventspool, CommunIT, the annual Connecting Up conference, the SA Community Services Directory, the SA Broadband project for rural and remote communities, DonorTec, and TechSoup New Zealand.

“Our key program, DonorTec, has delivered technology savings of nearly $30 million to nonprofits since its inception in 2007,” Mr Jacquier said.

“We have a dynamic young team that has recently launched TechSoup NZ and we are now looking at holding our annual Connecting Up conference in Sydney for the first time next year. It’s expected to attract even more delegates than the record numbers who attended in Brisbane this year.”

In recognition of his work in the nonprofit sector, Mr Jacquier has been named as a national finalist in the Equity Trustees Innovator of the Year awards, which honour “a leader responsible for a specific innovation resulting in a quantum leap in their not for profit organisation's service excellence, partnership success or organisational image”.The award will be announced on Oct ober 30, 2008.

As part of its expansion, Connecting Up Australia has moved into new offices at Level 8, 108 King William St, Adelaide.
