Newly released figures show travel bookings on Kangaroo Island boomed over winter helped by SeaLink’s You’ll Love It - Kangaroo Island winter campaign that entitled visitors booking two-nights’ accommodation or more on Kangaroo Island through SeaLink to a $10 ferry fare.

The campaign was nearly six times more successful than last year’s winter campaign, with over 7,000 visitors taking advantage of offer.

“SeaLink’s You’ll Love It- Kangaroo Island winter campaign proved to be a tremendous success with booking numbers up across the board, and thousands of visitors experiencing Kangaroo Island at a beautiful time of the year,” SeaLink General Manager, Sales & Marketing, Neil Gould says.

“SeaLink invests huge efforts in marketing Kangaroo Island as a premier tourism destination, with more than $130,000 spent on advertising, promotions, TV, radio, signage, digital marketing and more for this year’s campaign alone.

“We understand that our support is crucial to generating tourism to Kangaroo Island and are committed to raising the profile of the island as a premier tourism destination.

Tourism operators on Kangaroo Island also welcomed the extra traffic, providing a healthy boost to booking numbers during the typically slower winter season.

Aurora Ozone Hotel General Manager Andrew Duncan says SeaLink’s efforts in marketing the region has helped maintain good domestic figures in what has been a difficult year for regional tourism.

“The initiative of SeaLink has been wonderful and we saw increased numbers of visitors from the mainland this winter, something that would be difficult to achieve without SeaLink’s efforts.”

Ann Horbelt from Emu Bay Holiday Homes says it was the first time she had experienced such an influx of visitors from the mainland in many years.

“With cheap fares and excellent value accommodation, this was the perfect chance for people from the mainland to come over and experience beautiful Kangaroo Island,” Ms Horbelt says. “SeaLink really did tourists a big favour offering the cheapest fare they would see in a long while.”

Kangaroo Island Seaside Inn Owner Chris Schumann says the campaign came at a great time, having opened the business (formerly Comfort Inn Wisteria Lodge) in May this year.

“SeaLink’s winter campaign was really great at helping us get established at a time when we needed to promote our new business, and we received a great number of bookings as a result of the campaign,” Mr Schumann says.

SeaLink offers over 120 accommodation properties and activities on Kangaroo Island ranging from cosy cabins to luxurious resorts, coach and 4WD sightseeing tours, marine tours, nocturnal tours, caving adventures, quad biking, scuba diving and more.
