Get excited! The re-emergence of a sensational dynamic group comprising nine talented world musicians will perform the ‘new taste’ in music at the Subiaco Arts Centre this weekend.

Sabroson are a nine-piece ensemble that offers a contemporary take on Afro-Cuban music. Their mix of salsa classics, original songs and popular current tunes reworked with a Latin flavour is highly infectious and guaranteed to be a hit with audience members, young and old.

Some of the finest and hottest ‘salsalicious’ salsa, Latin, jazz, blues and sexy energetic original music will be heard storming from the bandstand. Sabroson combines traditional percussive rhythms alongside a fistful of well textured horns producing their own blatantly awesome grooves and arrangements.

Sabroson’s repertoire is unashamedly, though not exclusively, Latin; drawing from the vast pool of musical richness from Cuba, Puerto Rico, North America and Australia. The influences are unmistakable, Tito Puente, the Buena Vista Social Club, Eddie Palmieri, the Afro-Cuban All Stars, Santana, Ozomatli, James Brown, Cubanismo, The Cat Empire, Cold Play, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon and more.

Mark Gale, Sabroson’s bassist, said that Latin music has universal appeal.

“We always look forward to playing in front of a diverse audience and seeing the music emerge as a common thread,” Mark said.

Sabroson’s ‘essential nine’ combine the sounds of a big power-horn section with Adam Hall - Trumpet and lead vocals; Tilman Robinson - trombone and vocals; Ben Collins – saxophone and vocals; Joseph Naimo on congas and vocals; Steve Richter – timbales, percussion and vocals; Adolfo Chavez – lead vocals; Chris Tarr – drums; Greg Howieson on keyboard and Mark Gale on bass.

Sabroson’s play list is a fine argument for the notion that infectious dance grooves and lusty musical arrangements are the driving force behind a successful and highly entertaining performance.

Tickets are free and are available on the day from 1.15pm, with concerts starting at 2pm and finishing at 3.30pm, including a short break to enjoy a coffee or a glass of wine from the Subiaco Arts Centre bar.
