Wednesday, September 15th, 2010 - MIX 94.5
PERTH’S MIX 94.5 has today set a new record as the most successful radio station in Australia ever, rating number one for 87 consecutive surveys.

Today’s result from Nielsen Media Research’s sixth survey for 2010 sees MIX 94.5 setting an unprecedented Australian benchmark for ratings success by achieving number one results uninterrupted for nearly 11 years.

The record was previously held by another Austereo station, B105 in Brisbane.

Austereo Perth General Manager Linda Wayman said that to have rated 87 consecutive surveys at number one (since December 1999) and setting a new Australian record in a very competitive radio environment is a huge achievement by the MIX team.

“There are a number of factors contributing to MIX’s success but the big one is the fact that everyone on the MIX team has always been prepared to change and evolve to suit the listeners. Treating the listeners as number one is how we have stayed number one.”

Perth’s favourite breakfast show – The Bunch, featuring Fred Botica, Lisa Shaw and Paul ‘Captain Paul’ Shepherd – have been the backbone of the station’s success.

During the past decade, The Bunch have been involved in over 50 outside broadcasts at iconic Western Australian locations like Abbey Beach Resort in Busselton and Frasers at Kings Park.

Over the past 87 rating periods MIX 94.5 have given away almost $1.8 million to listeners, including an individual prize of $100,000 and a boat package worth $65,000.

MIX 94.5 has over the past ten years generated nearly $6 million worth of support for the community through organisations such as Telethon, Salvation Army, Cancer Council Western Australia and many others.

Men At Work’s ‘Down Under’ is one of most played songs on the station. Another song that’s been on air since 1999 is “Summer of 69” by Bryan Adams.

‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ by Guns N’ Roses, Rick Springfield’s ‘Jessie’s Girl’ and AC/DC’s pub anthem ‘It’s A Long Way To The Top’ continue to be the most requested songs on MIX 94.5.

Of all the MIX countdown’s over the last 10 years, Cold Chisel’s ‘Khe Sanh’ and ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ by Queen have taken out the number one spot more times than any other songs.

Over the past decade, listening habits have also changed and in 2010 MIX 94.5’s online activity, including live streaming and web videos, has grown exponentially with over 64,000 unique browsers visiting mix.com.au daily.
