6. Mother's Day Picnic at Cockman House, Wanneroo
Enjoy a relaxed afternoon on the grounds, try your luck playing some old fashioned games including skittles, quoits and noughts & crosses and then partake in a tour inside the heritage listed house. Completed in 1860, Cockman House is an historic gem and tells the story of James and Mary Ann Cockman and their descendants who lived in the house over a 130 year period. Acquired by the City of Wanneroo in 1987, Cockman House has been open as a museum and heritage site since April 1989. We will also be announcing the prize winners from our ‘Great Wanneroo Bake Off’ competition. The ever popular Book Cubby from the Library will be set up and we are inviting children and their families to design and print their own special book for Mothers Day. Children will be invited to create a book featuring their favourite foods and a copy of each book will be proudly displayed within the Wanneroo Library in the week following.
7. The Mother’s Day Classic, Langley Park, Perth

Family Picnic Spots
1. Kings Park and Botanic Garden
This huge park on the banks of the Swan River offers abundant locations for a perfect family picnic. Overlooking the city near Fraser Avenue you will find rolling lawns to set up a picnic blanket. Or try Synergy Parkland where there are free barbeques around the lake and plenty for the kids including dinosaur sculptures. There is also the Saw Avenue Picnic area with its recently revamped Variety Place nature playground, and the Lotterywest Family Area that has a fabulous fenced playground perfect for little ones.
2. Lake Leschenaultia
This man-made lake is situated in the country town of Chidlow. It is the perfect place for a family day trip. There is an abundance of picnic tables and barbeques dotted around the lake. The calm waters of the lake make it the ideal spot for small children to paddle in along the edges on the sandy beaches. You can also hire a canoe and take a tour around the lake. If you enjoy walking there is a 3km walking trail around the lake with plenty of wildlife.
3. Mundaring Weir
Located east of Perth, Mundaring Weir is the name of the dam that crosses the Helena River. It was built in 1898.
The walk along the dam wall is great fun and perfectly safe for little people. The South Ledge Lookout point gives you a great view of the Weir and its surroundings, and here you will find woodfired barbeques and picnic benches.
4. Yanchep National Park
Yanchep National Park is abundant with wildlife (kangaroos laze on the lawns; koalas can be seen in their natural habitat from a special boardwalk), and is home to many different water and bush birds. Rolling lawns provide perfect picnic spots in the shade overlooking the lake, with free barbeques available.
For added fun take a tour of the Crystal Caves, or the wetland area, Loch McNess, or if you are lucky you can catch an entertaining Aboriginal cultural experience with Didgeridoo and Dance.
5. John Forrest National Park
The visitor area of the gorgeous John Forrest National Park contains barbecue and picnic facilities and cultivated gardens of native plants. The area around Jane brook provides a beautiful picnic opportinity with tables near the Rock Pool and barbeque facilities closeby. Listen to the babbling brook while you feast on your lunch, and aftwards take a walk in the forrest.
