Adelaide, Australia – To continue its profitable growth, water systems optimization company Optimatics has appointed John Cowan as its new Regional Director North America and Europe reporting to Optimatics CEO, Tim Anderson.

Announcing Mr Cowan’s appointment, Mr Anderson said that the company was delighted to welcome him to the Optimatics team to lead business growth in the world’s largest water industry markets.

“John has an outstanding track record in building and leading companies in the environmental sector, especially relating to water and energy,” Mr Anderson said. “We are well positioned to draw upon his significant sales and business development success in the water and wastewater sector, including as Vice President, Water & Infrastructure Group, with international consulting, engineering and technical management firm Parsons Corporation.”

At Parsons Corporation Mr Cowan was responsible for business development activities to support the western region of the US for water and wastewater projects for municipal and industrial customers. Mr Cowan also provided business development services for Parsons international operating companies in Asia, Middle East and Pacific Island states. Mr Cowan developed and led the successful strategy for the company to win a five year contract from the San Francisco Public Utility Commission (SFPUC) to manage the upgrade of its water distribution system, with a services contract value of US$4.4 billion.

Mr Cowan has most recently held the position of President of Hydrodec North America, LLC, a technology company that was developed and launched from Australia to provide advanced oil and environmental process technology, products and services to industry.

Prior to joining Parsons, Mr Cowan was the Director of Asia Pacific Operations for Sustainable Project Management (SPM), a Swiss-based not-for-profit international development organization. SPM aims to create locally owned public-private partnerships that operate commercially to improve water, waste and energy services in developing communities. Mr Cowan was responsible for all donor relations and project development activities in the Asia Pacific region.

Prior to that, Mr Cowan was Managing Director for Dow Environmental Australia, where he initiated and developed the company’s Melbourne office to provide environmental, consulting and construction management services to Dow Chemical operations in Australia and New Zealand. He also worked with operational country managers in Japan, Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, Hong Kong and India.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Botany and has completed the International Business Management program at the Australian Institute of Management.

Mr Cowan is located in Seattle, Washington, in the US. He will continue to work from this location, which will enable Optimatics to establish its West Coast, USA, presence to service the numerous water utility clients that it has in that region. Mr Cowan will work closely with the Optimatics Chicago office to formulate and implement a new strategy and tactics that will drive the company’s growth and improve its performance. He will spend time travelling throughout the region to meet with clients, partners, influencers and prospects to identify, develop and secure optimization consulting and software solution sales. Mr Cowan will also oversee the development of new business and ongoing maintenance of client relations in Europe and the UK.

Previous Optimatics President North America, Jeff Frey, will take on the newly created role of Co-founder and Technical Director, focussing on client and partner relationships. Mr Frey will report directly to Mr Cowan.

Mr Cowan and Mr Frey will work together with the rest of the Optimatics team to develop and implement the new Business Plan for Optimatics North America & Europe with the focus on enabling its clients to provide optimal water services.

Mr Cowan commences with Optimatics on September 1st.
