Monday, August 23rd, 2010 - The Airport Brighton Jetty Classic Sculptures Exhibition
The annual Adelaide Airport Brighton Jetty Classic Sculptures is expanding along the foreshore.

The Chairperson of the Adelaide Airport Brighton Jetty Classic Sculptures, Mr Kym Rothe announced today that the Holdfast Council has confirmed their support to create the start of a sculptures walk along the Brighton foreshore.

“It’s an exciting milestone” Mr Rothe said. “This is the first step in our vision to create a Sculptures walk all the way from Brighton to Glenelg”.

The Adelaide Airport Brighton Jetty Classic Sculptures exhibition is held over the last week in January culminating with the Channel 7 Brighton Jetty Classic swim on the first Sunday in February. The combination of both arts and sport is a unique and successful community event.

The exhibition is organised by voluntary members of the Brighton Surf lifesaving club. Exhibits include indoor sculptures which are displayed in the new Brighton Surf Lifesaving Club rooms. Outdoor sculptures are displayed in the adjoining Bindarra Reserve with an additional limited number of sites now available along the foreshore. Sculpture compositions range from metal, wood, wire, glass, metals, stone, clay, plastics to cement.

Now in its fourth year, The Adelaide Airport Brighton Jetty Classic Sculptures is only one of a small number of exhibitions dedicated to sculptures in South Australia. Mr Rothe said “While sculpture exhibitions are big in other states, the Adelaide Airport Brighton Jetty Classic Sculptures walk now opens up new opportunities for Sculptors to be part of this exciting and growing exhibition.

The exhibition receives community and corporate support and attracts Sculptors such as renowned Metal Sculptor and Public And Community Artist Gerry McMahon. Both professional sculptors, emerging artists including those with a creative flair are encouraged to contribute. Exhibits range from the pure artistic, to grand sculptures where skilled engineering and art come together, to the more bizarre and controversial.

Entries are now open for next year’s exhibition up until 1st November 2010. See www.brightonjettyclassicsculptures.com for details on how to enter.
