The opening performances for this years’ City of Subiaco free winter concert series, [email protected], have showcased performances from some of Perth’s finest young and emerging talent, as well as some of Australia’s most accomplished musicians.
Mayor Heather Henderson said the program is varied and exciting this year.
“The talent this series uncovers is always a lovely surprise to me, even after twenty two years! The concerts remain fresh and continue to deliver some outstanding acts,” Mayor Henderson said.
“The Subiaco Arts Centre is one of Perth’s iconic venues and the intimacy of the theatre creates such a great audience experience,” she said.
The rest of the series presents an eclectic mix of genres; from world music, through to new country; smooth jazz; harp; Afro-Cuban; Perth’s esteemed stage and show vocalist, Justin Friend, and some good honest rock ‘n’ roll.
This Sunday 15 August, three of Perth’s favourite performance poets’ team up for an afternoon of home-grown fun with musings on everything from Rottnest Islands famed quokka to the adventures of Eric the campervan.
Rottnest Island’s self-appointed poet laureate Phil Strutt said if you’re not laughing, you’re not listening.
Tickets are free and are available on the day from 1.15pm, with concerts starting at 2pm and finishing at 3.30pm, including a short break to enjoy a coffee or a glass of wine from the Subiaco Arts Centre bar.
The [email protected] series is a free community concert series that covers a mix of themes and genres suitable for all ages. The series runs every Sunday through to 3 October at Subiaco Art Centre, 180 Hamersley Road, Subiaco. For more information visit www.subiaco.wa.gov.au or contact the city on 9237 9222.
