Once upon a time… a writer would write a book, submit it to publishing houses for their review and if one of the lucky few, your book would be published and distributed to book stores around the country or even the world for sale. Social Media has since changed the way we market or promote books to a reading audience.

Where we would have waited for a reader to select our book off a bookshelf in a book store, authors can now access many of the tools that were once only available to the big publishers, and with a little effort, promote their books to millions of potential readers themselves. So along with the growth of eBooks and self-publishing, more and more people are writing and publishing their own stories every day, using social media to tell their stories and just maybe growing their reading audience along the way.

In Nicola Hardy's latest book The Authors Guide to How To Market Your Book Online, written for authors wanting to establish their online presence we breakdown some of the social media platforms to help authors find their audience and give them tips on how to promote themselves through that channel.

As the headline states, of the 1.55 Billion Facebook users, 606 Million have an interest in reading books. No author can ignore that fact! Nicola states further that "there is an audience for every author on social media, you just need to know where to look". Another social media fact that is hard for authors to ignore is that "almost 80% of Pinterest users are women" surely if you are an author of books relevant to a female audience you would want to establish yourself on that channel too.

Book marketing is an ongoing process for authors but it shouldn't always be hard. Find your audience, start a dialogue and you may just end up with a few more fans of your work. Sounds like a plan.
