Friday, March 18th, 2016 - Norfolk Island Travel Centre

Great news for travellers with the recent announcement of direct flights from Melbourne to Norfolk Island! For Victorian visitors the need for an over-night stay in Sydney or Brisbane to meet connecting flights is now removed. Not only will this save on the extra cost of domestic flights, but as ‘time is money’ additional savings are made as up to 24 hours is taken off travelling times.

With scheduled dates throughout the year the service is operated by Alliance Airlines who will also add flights depending on demand. For selected events booked or run by the Norfolk Island Travel Centre package prices ex Melbourne can be prepared. With over 100 annual events to choose from there is no shortage of choice.

Sporting events include golf, bowls, tennis, 3D archery, pistol shooting, clay target – and even outrigging! The history and heritage of the island is renowned and Bounty Day, First Fleet celebrations and Norfolk Island Folk History are amongst the choices. Music, dancing and art are celebrated with annual festivals of jazz, country music, ukulele playing, line-dancing and ballroom dancing. En Plein Air and art workshops run nearly every month of the year, while leading photographers run tours, and quilting workshops and retreats are also popular.

Likely to be of interest to Melbourne ‘foodies’ is the Norfolk Island Food Festival held from the 28th November to 2nd December 2016.  Fresh seasonal produce is all that Norfolk Island ever produces and the Island only imports potatoes, garlic, ginger and onions and there is no cold storage of fruit and vegetables. That means you eat what the season dictates - often freshly picked the morning of the day it is purchased.

The Norfolk Island Food Festival is the event that showcases our food, talented local chefs and visiting celebrity chefs who find inspiration from the produce. Those who joined us last year had a hard time deciding what was the best event and meal of the week – was it the Wild Wetls Four Chef Dinner, Baunti Breakfast beside sparkling Emily Bay, the Convict Settlement Dinner, one of the cooking demonstrations, the Indulgence Tour, Thanksgiving Day Lunch or the Taste Norfolk’s Bounty Festival Night? Or perhaps it was watching celebrity chef Dominique Rizzo in action or being there for Vali Little’s book launch. To say it was a great week is an understatement – it was absolutely scrumptious!

Many who came to last year’s Festival have already decided to return for 2016. Fabulous travel packages pp twin share start ex Melbourne at $2149, ex Brisbane $1749 and ex Sydney $1799 including airfare, accommodation, car hire and the full Norfolk Island Food Festival Package – and more.
