The much anticipated free [email protected] winter concert series kicks off this Sunday with “Chamber Jam”.

Chamber Jam is a classical music concert like no other. Audiences will experience stunning pieces from the classical repertoire, through arrangements of some of the most modern and fun music taken from rock, pop, jazz and other genres. Featured performances on Sunday include the Imperial String Quartet, Just Sax and Brendan Biddiss.

Mayor Heather Henderson said it is this type of innovative and unique performance that has had Subiaco residents coming back for more in the series twenty-two year history.

“We have been lucky to source the very best of Australian talent and continue to uncover and support some truly great acts.

Chamber Jam is no exception and offers music lovers the opportunity to experience classical music from a fresh perspective,” Mayor Henderson said.

The Imperial String Quartet formed in London in 1997 and has performed for esteemed clients such as the British Royal Family! Their current line-up features members of talented crossover group Bojème (Jessica Gethin on violin, Bourby Webster on viola, Emma McCoy on cello) with Rachel Aquilina on violin.

Just Sax began as collaboration between the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) and University of Western Australia saxophonists who perform a wide variety of musical styles including classical, funk, jazz, folk and tango. Just Sax will be pulling out some of their favourite swing tunes, as well as some new pieces.

Brendan Biddiss began playing the guitar at the age of seven in Albany, and gained a full scholarship for classical guitar at Perth Modern High School. Brendan is currently completing his Bachelor Degree at WAAPA.

Bourby Webster, viola player and creative force behind Chamber Jam and North Street Music said we are all really excited to be a part of the opening concert of the [email protected] series.

“It gives us the chance to perform to a totally new audience, and be part of something that over the coming weeks boasts some of the top performers in WA. I know the other Chamber Jam musicians performing alongside us feel exactly the same," she said.

Tickets are free and are available on the day from 1.15pm, with concerts starting at 2pm and finishing at 3.30pm, including a short break to enjoy a coffee or a glass of wine from the Subiaco Arts Centre bar.

The [email protected] series is a free community concert series that covers a mix of themes and genres suitable for all ages. The series runs every Sunday from 18 July to 3 October at the Subiaco Art Centre, 180 Hamersley Road, Subiaco.
