A delegation representing 21 Australian community organisations visited the Melbourne Consul-General for Turkey, Mr Mehmet Kucuksakalli, to hand deliver a letter addressed to Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The letter signatories are a representation of the large and diverse Muslim communities in Australia who have felt the need to express solidarity with Turkey, particularly after last Tuesday's terrorist attack in Instanbul.
The letter and the delegation expressed solidarity with the people, leadership and the nation of Turkey. They offered their condolences to the Consul General and expressed that they genuinely saw a unique model of moral leadership in the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and its current government. A model of leadership that offered inspiration and hope to millions in Turkey and across the globe.
The delegation specifically highlighted the courageous stance for justice in Syria and Egypt as examples of this moral based leadership.
The spokesman for the delegation, Mr Almir Colan, said "At a personal level, the president's genuine care for the vulnerable has touched many so deeply." He added, "We pray for Turkey, its people and its leadership to continue to prosper, remain resolve against terrorism and grow in its role as a global role model."
