Friday, May 28th, 2010 - Red Heart Ride
On 2 June four cyclists will ride 3500km from Uluru to Brisbane to raise funds for Australian Rotary Health’s mental illness research under the Red Heart Ride program.

The group brings together a philosopher (Alex Harper), an adventurer (David Bull), an entrepreneur (Scott Griffin) and an architect (David Moran) who will ride for two and a half weeks to reach Brisbane.

Their first stop will be Alice Springs on 4 June followed by Tennant Creek on 6 June and Mt Isa on 10 June. They will end the ride in Brisbane on June 19. Full details of stopovers across Queensland can be found at

Harper, Bull and Griffin are also members of non-profit group The Australian Voices which is a leading vocal ensemble that nurtures young Australian talent. Griffin recently completed a 250km marathon across the Kimberley Desert to raise funds for The Australian Voices.

Australian Rotary Health’s Terry Davies said they were pleased to endorse the Red Heart Ride.

“The Ride's donations will help us to fund research into mental illness, depression and suicide prevention. I hope the great physical and mental efforts of these young people can show Australia that the problems of mental health in this country are real and are not going away," he said.

The cyclists will be speaking at Rotary events and public meetings along the way to raise awareness of mental health issues and will also feature doctors and health professionals as speakers.

The cause is being sponsored by Hutchinson Builders, Ausenco, 2xU and Rider’s Cyclery.

Principal sponsor Ausenco Mines has donated $4000 to the cause. 2XU has provided excellent quality compression gear and riding clothes for $3500 while Hutchinson Builders have provided a support vehicle and Riders Cyclery have assisted with the bikes and riding equipment

The riders will be putting themselves through extremely challenging physical conditions as temperatures at this time of the year can be below zero degrees at times.

To donate to the cause visit Donations over $2 are tax deductible.
