A logistics company is expanding its national footprint, leasing a property at Morningside and searching for another facility nearby.

The group, Costa Logistics, plans to move into the temperature-controlled storage site at 27 Riverside Place, Morningside, on April 1.

Costa Logistics chief operating officer Geoff Norman said the leasing of the Brisbane space was part of the company’s national growth strategy. The Morningside site will provide the group with 3500sqm of chilled and temperature-controlled warehousing space.

The group currently operates large facilities out of Eastern Creek in NSW, Derrimut in Victoria, Jandakot in Perth and Devonport in Tasmania. It is also involved with a 44,000sqm chilled distribution centre in Parkinson, south of Brisbane, in a joint venture under the Polar Fresh brand.

Mr Norman said the move to Morningside was a major inroad for the group which he hoped would help cement its position as a high-quality and high-tech perishable foods national warehousing solutions provider.

“Expanding into Queensland was a natural progression in the company’s growth plans,” he said.

Mr Norman said the group would now target high-volume manufacturers, food service providers and producers of fresh produce, juices, dairy products, confectionary and other foods to service from the Morningside facility.

“For Costa Logistics, this is our first venture into the Brisbane market and we looked around and we thought Morningside was the right building for us,” he said.

Mr Norman said the plan was to get two sites up and running in Brisbane and said they were looking at other options.

The lease for the Morningside facility is for three years and Mr Norman said the rent was about $500,000 a year.

Voyt Reich of Raine & Horne Commercial negotiated the lease.
