South Australia’s business leaders have united in a unique effort to drive the economy towards globalisation through the Impact Awards. The Impact Awards is a program identifying world-beating local companies and actively assisting them with mentoring and access to exclusive personal networks to ignite explosive growth. Winners will be announced on November 10, 2015.
One Impact Awards ambassador, Tom Phillips, is a 40 year veteran of global car manufacturing who held senior executive roles at Toyota and was CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Australia. “From my global experience I have seen first hand how pressure can be applied like a blow torch to an advanced economy that is not set up to meet the challenges. South Australia needs to deal with a small population, in an isolated region with high costs.”
Another Impact Awards ambassador, Nick Begakis, former Chair and Director of Statewide Super, a $6 billion Industry Fund, says: “The Impact Awards is about collecting our best innovations and giving them global recognition and new advantages to globalise their operations. Having more companies generating more impact on the world stage, will equal higher value jobs and strengthen the local community.”
The Impact Awards recognise that South Australia has a wealth of potential for global impact and has already achieved a number of significant firsts including the manufacture of the world’s most energy efficient commercial air conditioner, the impending IPO of an advanced intelligent decision support system for clinicians and exporting what is known as the “ipod” of fuel management systems.
With only 4% of local companies exporting, the need to grow more local capability and confidence to take on the world is pressing.
“Our mission is to provide an option for these and other companies to access both influential networks and a pool of global expertise that can assist with accelerating growth as well as accessing customers and investments,” says Goran Roos, another ambassador and global expert in advanced economy manufacturing. "I continue to be impressed by how many local companies have proven to be both resilient and very resourceful, overcoming high operating costs, large geographical distances from international customers, and many other obstacles, to succeed in a highly competitive and global market place,” says Roos.
The Impact Awards is designed for companies who are ready to take a step onto the international stage or who want to expand. This is a comprehensive program designed to attract capital investment, drive SA’s globally competitive companies faster, improve the quality of job opportunities in SA and create better connections between industry and research.
