Rheinmetall Defence today announced the appointment of Tim Pickford as General Manager, Business Development for Rheinmetall Defence Australia.
Mr Pickford will co-ordinate the pursuit of new business in Australasia across its three divisions – Combat Systems, Wheeled Vehicles and Electronic Solutions – working alongside business development managers from each division in Australia and in Germany. He will report to Rheinmetall Defence Australia Managing Director, Andrew Fletcher.
“Tim will play a pivotal role in creating new business opportunities across more than 25 projects Rheinmetall Defence has targeted in land, sea and air programs offered by the Department of Defence,” Mr Fletcher said.
“His expertise will enable Rheinmetall to deliver the best possible solutions to the customer and identify opportunities for the company to expand its footprint in Australia through new programs and partnerships.”
Mr Pickford has significant defence and industry experience both with Rheinmetall and another major international prime, particularly in the Land and Joint Systems space, and has worked extensively on Rheinmetall’s bid for the $4 billion Land 400 Phase 2 project in Germany and Australia.
Prior to his work in defence industry Mr Pickford was a senior officer in the Australian Army. He served as the Assistant Chief of Staff of the Multinational Force in Iraq and led the Army’s force development and future forces experimentation initiatives.
“I look forward to this new role,” Mr Pickford said.
“There is an alignment between the aspiration of the Defence Acquisition and Support Group to deliver integrated capability to the ADF and the scope of technology provided by Rheinmetall Defence. There are tremendous benefits for both parties.”
