RESTON, VA--(Marketwired - Sep 8, 2015) - The Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) today announced that Betty Su has joined the organization as its first-ever chief marketing officer and as vice president, Marketing and Communications.
GMAC is the owner and administrator of the GMAT exam -- used for entrance into more than 6,100 graduate business and management programs around the world, including programs offered at the Council's 213 member schools. GMAC is also the owner and administrator of the NMAT by GMAC exam, used for entrance into graduate business and management programs in India. The Council serves both students and schools though its efforts to connect the talents and aspirations of students with the education, life, and career opportunities represented by taking a graduate degree in business or management.
"We are thrilled to have Betty Su join the Council," said Sangeet Chowfla, president and chief executive officer of GMAC. "Betty has a deep and dynamic understanding of today's consumers, especially the younger, connected undergraduate and the young or mid-career professionals, which are so important to GMAC and to our member schools."
Chowfla continued, "Betty's proven success in direct to consumer marketing, while at Kraft Foods, as well as her ability to operate effectively in a changing marketplace and a changing organization like the USPS, made her a standout in our search and the clear choice to be GMAC's first CMO."
"I'm very pleased to be joining GMAC," said Su. "As an MBA degree holder myself, I know the confidence and career control a business or management degree can put in the hands of a graduate. I am looking forward to exploring new ways GMAC can bring those opportunities to more students. My past experiences at Kraft and USPS have been dedicated to shaping the marketing functions of enterprises where the markets they serve are in flux and where shaping the conversation with consumers is as important as shaping the business strategy."
Su joins GMAC with 15-plus years of experience in building brands. She is coming from the U.S. Postal Service, where she served as executive director, Brand Marketing, leading a newly established team overseeing brand turnaround strategy, as well as insight and demand generation efforts. Su was responsible for strengthening the performance of the organization's digital properties, driving retail growth and creating new revenue generating marketing platforms.
From 2003-2013, Su held various brand marketing and innovation leadership positions at Kraft Foods Group with a focus on youth brands. Her work there led to success across multiple product lines in multiple markets around the world -- developing and delivering integrated marketing programs resulting in growth in sales, brand recognition and the incorporation of new marketing and demand-generating technologies.
Su is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in economics, and she earned an MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.
