Massage your way to a new career
The health industry is experiencing a shortage of Massage Therapists and the Royal Society for the Blind (RSB) has the solution!
RSB Employment Services have received a grant from the Department of State Development to fund a six month ‘Corporate Therapist Program’. Run in conjunction with the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) and the Natural Health Academy Australia the program will be available to eligible clients who are blind or vision impaired.
Clients will learn the fundamental skills involved in massage therapy, receive first aid training, learn business and communication skills and obtain an industry work placement guided by a mentor within the Massage Therapy industry.
RSB Employment Services client, Ross Simpson, is currently working as a Massage Therapist and will be a mentor for the program.
“I love that I get to help people every day and work with a great team of practitioners who are always willing to help me develop my skills.
“I would absolutely recommend Massage Therapy to other people who are vision impaired and looking for work. I’m really looking forward to helping others get into the industry” Ross says.
RSB Employment Services Coordinator, Cathrin Gill, is excited about the opportunities the grant will offer to people who are blind or vision impaired.“This is a fantastic program with great employment prospects for our clients” Cathrin says.
An information session about the ‘Corporate Therapist Program’ will be held at 2pm on Friday 10 July and training will commence from Monday 20 July.
