As digital technology advances exponentially, the need to adopt technology to help meet the challenges in healthcare has never been clearer. E-health continues to rise globally and HealthEngine is leading the way in Australia, bringing the benefits of digital health and helping to empower people of all ages as they take more control over their health.
In June 2012, 4,000 bookings had been made on HealthEngine. Today, just three years later, this has increased to 1,000,000 bookings and a health appointment is booked every 20 seconds compared to every 2.5 hours in 2012. HealthEngine plans to continue this momentum, with 120,000 bookings a month its projected bookings will increase by a further 300 per cent within the next 18 months.
Dr Marcus Tan, HealthEngine CEO and Medical Director, says the company will continue to innovate its services to further accommodate for its expanding user base.
“E-health is an innovative and fast-moving space that is constantly growing, with new players entering the market. As leaders in the e-health space in Australia, we are committed to staying in front to drive this growth and connect patients with their health care professionals,” said Dr Tan.
HealthEngine site has shown huge growth since its inception in 2006.

HealthEngine is a convenient resource if a patient requires an urgent appointment, their regular doctor is booked out or they are new to a suburb and not sure where the closest GP, dentist or healthcare professional is located. The online service is easy to use – simply type in a suburb or postcode to reveal a list of doctors’ appointments at clinics in the surrounding area.
HealthEngine goes beyond a booking service, being a source of knowledge for more than 6 million unique visitors. As Australia’s leading health directory, it lists GPs, dentists, physiotherapists, chiropractors, psychologists, medical specialists, pharmacists and optometrists as well as other health services.
Dr Tan continued “HealthEngine’s roots as a health directory combined with its simple and efficient service allowing patients to secure their appointments makes it an invaluable resource. It helps consumers navigate a cluttered health space in a timely and easy fashion. Ultimately we assist in delivering the right care, at the right place, at the right time”.
HealthEngine’s latest booking patterns reveal that Australians are embracing the technology to make bookings in their own time, using devices that are best suited to their lifestyles.
