LAUNCH – FRIDAY 14TH MAY 2010 - $150,000 OF PRIZES FOR SCHOOLS
Join us in the race to save the Planet… The most exciting and educational national schools challenge for 2010 will be launched at:
Amaroo School in Canberra ACT at 11am on Friday 14th May 2010, Katherine Avenue, Amaroo.
The challenge invites all schools Australia wide to nominate and compete for $150,000 worth of prizes by playing the new educational and environmental board game FOOTPRINTS®.
The FOOTPRINTS® NATIONAL SCHOOLS ENVIRONMENT CHALLENGE
will be attended by Professor Penny D. Sackett (Chief Scientist of Australia), Mr Peter Russo (CEO Australian Science Teachers Association) and Mr Bruno Battistella (Director of Signature Games).
The FOOTPRINTS® game has been endorsed by ASTA (Australian Science Teachers Association). The FOOTPRINTS® game was developed specically for school students and can be played from ages eight and over. Players move through a spiral of environmental challenges towards the centre of the board by answering environmental questions and causing as little environmental damage as possible.
The FOOTPRINTS® game and the challenge will teach the importance of the environmental issues our planet faces today, including recycling, water conservation, pollution, fauna and flora protection and the carbon imprints that everyday household activities can create and how to reduce these.
The challenge will be conducted in every state and territory with each participating school receiving a FOOTPRINTS® challenge kit.
That will include how to set up the challenge and full instructions on game play and the judging process
Students at Amaroo high will be playing the FOOTPRINTS® game in teams at the launch and will be available for interviews & comments.
The challenge will be conducted at school, zone, state and culminate in a national final in Canberra in October 2010.
Mr Peter Russo CEO of ASTA said “We would encourage the students of Australia to experience learning through the medium of the board game, a socially interactive activity that is regaining some ground against playing computer games in isolation. We firmly believe that FOOTPRINTS® will not only contribute signicantly to science, history, social and environmental aspects of student learning but also their families understanding of current environmental issues.”
