Friday, March 20th, 2015 - Sub Summit

The Sub Summit is pleased that Defence Minister Kevin Andrews will represent the Prime Minister and deliver the opening address at 9am on Wednesday 25th March.

The Sub Summit, to be held at the Adelaide Convention Centre next week from March 25-26, is an opportunity to hear about the Government’s acquisition strategy for the Future Submarine Program, including details of the competitive evaluation process and the plan for Australian industry engagement.

As the Government has said, they expect significant work will be undertaken in Australia during the build phase of the future submarine including combat system integration, design assurance and land based testing.

At the Sub Summit, Minister Andrews is expected to give further details about how the Defence Materiel Organisation will engage with Australian defence industry and how they will be connected to potential international partners.

The Government has announced that the Future Submarine Programme will result in the creation of at least 500 new high-skill jobs in Australia and represents an investment in the order of $50 billion in Australia’s security.

The Sub Summit’s single focus is to dispel the myths in the public forum related to the submarine issue and to facilitate a public understanding of the immense task ahead of the decision makers.

Other speakers at the Sub Summit include Opposition Leader the Hon Bill Shorten MP, South Australian Senator Sean Edwards, Shadow Assistant Minister for Defence Senator David Feeney, and South Australian Minister for Defence Industries and Veterans Affairs the Hon Martin Hamilton-Smith MP.

Senior Defence Department speakers include Harry Dunstall Acting CEO of the Defence Materiel Organisation and Rear Admiral Gregory Sammut, Head of Future Submarine Program.  The program also includes a wide range of national and international submarine experts, including those from Japan, Germany and Sweden.

Event organiser, Mark Ryan said the Summit is open to the public and is a must attend event.  The Royal United Services Institute has teamed with the Hargraves Institute and SAGE International to bring this Sub Summit to defence industry and to the public.
