Mad Mex named a BRW 2010 Fast Starter

Seventh location of popular Mexican eatery opens at Castle Towers Shopping Centre

Brown-Forman & Herradura partner with Mad Mex for month-long Cinco de Mayo promotion

This month Mad Mex Fresh Mexican Grill celebrates three major milestones in the company’s two and a half year history. The popular Baja-Mexican eatery with locations in NSW and VIC has been named a BRW 2010 Fast Starter, opened its seventh location at Castle Towers Shopping Centre in Castle Hill NSW, and on 1 May launches its largest promotion to date in partnership with Brown-Foreman and premium tequila brand, Herradura.

For the first time, Mad Mex has been named as a BRW 2010 Fast Starter. The 2010 BRW Fast Starters are richer, faster growing and have higher turnover and more confidence about their success that ever before. For entrepreneurs and start-up businesses to have qualified, they must:

  • Have commenced trading after June 30, 2005
  • Have reported at least two fiscal years in revenue
  • Have revenue of more than $500,000 in 2008-09
  • Have more than one main customer (the bulk of revenue must not be from government grants or other start-up funding)
  • Be Australian – not a subsidiary of a multinational
  • Revenue for 2008-09 must be more than 2007-08

The 2010 BRW Fast Starters issue will be on sale April 29th 2010 at the cover price of $7.95, available at local newsagents.

Founder and company director Clovis Young said, “Since opening our flagship location in Darlinghurst, we were confident that Australians would love the fresh and healthy flavours of Mexican food.” Young continued, “We’re in one of the fastest growing sectors of the fast-casual dining marketplace, and we’re thankful to our customers and business partners for helping us build our success to the point where we could be named a BRW Fast Starter.

Mad Mex Fresh Mexican Grill opened its seventh location in Castle Towers Shopping Centre last week. Located in Sydney’s Hills District in the suburb of Castle Hill, Mad Mex is the newest addition to the Piazza District, Castle Tower’s upscale dining destination. The fully licensed location offers Mad Mex’s healthy choice of tacos, burritos, fajitas and quesadillas filled with freshly grilled or slow-cooked meats and black beans complimented with market-fresh produce, hand-made salsas and guacamole. It also features the award-winning lucha–libre (Mexican wrestling) themed design including a state-of-the-art open plan kitchen, original artwork, communal dining tables and Mad Mex’s signature Corona bottle chandelier.

Mr. Young has plans to grow Mad Mex to more than 40 stores by 2016, with franchises now available throughout Australia. Current NSW locations include Darlinghurst, Circular Quay, Macquarie Centre, Westfield Tuggerah, Westpoint Shopping Centre in Blacktown and Castle Towers, and Mad Mex opened its first Melbourne location at 131 Chapel Street, Windsor in March 2010. The company plans to open outlets in Queensland in 2010/2011, as well as further expand within NSW and Melbourne.

Beginning 1 May, all licensed locations of Mad Mex will kick off the company’s largest promotion to date to celebrate the Mexican holiday, Cinco de Mayo. In partnership with Brown –Foreman’s premium tequila brand Herradura, Mad Mex is offering $5 margaritas and $5 shots of el Jimador, Mexico’s most popular tequila, the entire month of May. Herradura is also sponsoring a gift-with-purchase offering, with collectible shot glasses available as part of the promotion. Additionally, from 3-7 May every Mad Mex will offer $5 food specials including burritos, chips and Mexican desserts to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Full details of the promotion are available here: http://www.newsmaker.com.au/news/3149

What is Cinco de Mayo? It literally means “5th of May” and recognizes a historic battle fought on 5 May 1862 where Mexican soldiers fought off French and traitor Mexican troops, keeping Napoleon III from supplying confederate soldiers during the United States Civil War. Thus began an unprecedented cooperation between the Mexican and American armies and Cinco de Mayo is celebrated across North America to recognize freedom and liberty.
