Trade and Investment Minister Andrew Robb today announced Ms Fei Li as the winner of the 2015 Beryl Wilson Austrade Scholarship for Women in International Business.

The scholarship honours Beryl Wilson, who, in 1963, was the first woman to be appointed as an Australian Trade Commissioner with her career including postings in San Francisco, the Pacific Islands, New Zealand and London.

Ms Li, 23, of Melbourne, holds a double Bachelor degree in Commerce and Economics from Monash University, and has a background in marketing. She also speaks Mandarin and Cantonese.

Ms Li will receive a package valued at up to $40,000 to help her complete her Master of International Business degree at the University of Melbourne.

Her ambition is to utilise her skills and interest in international business to work for a multi-national company in logistics and global supply chains.

Mr Robb said Ms Li’s passion for different cultures, her academic achievement and desire to establish a successful international business career, made her a most fitting recipient of this year’s scholarship.

"Beryl Wilson remains a strong role model, inspiring other Australian women to pursue careers in international business and trade. Ms Li has all the attributes to succeed in her chosen career and to also serve as a great role model for other women," he said.

Mr Robb said opening up opportunities to further the participation of women in business and trade was fundamental to the ongoing health of our economy.

Ms Li will also participate in the Women in Global Business Programme, a joint federal, state and territory government initiative which aims to increase the number of women in international trade.
