Aim Is to Transform Da Nang City by Creating Economic Opportunities, Improving Education and Boosting R&D

HANOI, VIETNAM--(Marketwire) - Cisco (NASDAQ: CSCO) and the People's Committee of Da Nang today announced the next stage in their collaboration to explore how Cisco® technologies can transform Da Nang City into an economically viable community over a networked environment.

Today's amendment to the memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed in the presence of Mr. Vo Duy Khuong, Vice President of the People's Committee of Da Nang, Mr. Pham Kim Son, Director of Da Nang Department of Information and Communication, Christian Hentschel, Cisco's managing director for emerging countries in Asia, as well as Lee Chiang Toh, country manager for Cisco in Vietnam. The amendment to the MoU will explore collaborations using innovative solutions that use the network to connect, engage, and empower people while accelerating economic growth and strengthening social well-being.

The MoU originally signed in 2007 identified opportunities where Cisco technology and expertise could optimise Da Nang as the leading government administration in Vietnam using information and communication technologies.

Key Facts

Cisco and the People's Committee of Da Nang have agreed to explore how they can upgrade their core network to the next-generation information and communications technology platform for a connected city.

Cisco and its channel partners are also exploring ways in which they can help the People's Committee of Da Nang to design the infrastructure for the future Da Nang IT Park, a research and development facility for a variety of technology sectors.

The People's Committee of Da Nang will investigate the feasibility of collaboration solutions to help change the way they communicate and collaborate through WebEx® training provided by Cisco.

Cisco's intent is to share expertise on building Vietnam's e-government strategy and using the network to increase energy efficiency, create new tools for 'energy-aware' city management, and enable economic opportunity and quality of life with the People's Committee of Da Nang, as they work towards their goal of becoming an Eco2City as defined by the World Bank.

Cisco's approach elevates the network as the platform for sustainability and unites information sharing and collaboration tools to create a services platform that addresses the challenges of massive urbanization and environmental sustainability. Through this model, Cisco is helping various communities in the world, changing the way cities, towns and villages are designed, built and managed.

Cisco also intends to support the People's Committee of Da Nang by offering the Cisco Networking Academy® program for colleges and universities in Da Nang.

Networking Academy is a global education program that teaches students how to design, build, troubleshoot and secure computer networks, thereby enabling increased access to career and economic opportunities in communities around the world.
