A NEW era in beachside dining is now under way in Fremantle with the launch this week of Bathers Beach House.
Stunning panoramic views, alfresco dining and WA’s first beach lounges, matched with a well-priced menu and the best local craft beer, have come together to create Perth's only absolute beachfront restaurant, bar and function space.
Just steps away from the famed Bathers Beach in Fremantle’s Fishing Boat Harbour precinct, the new venue is located in the historic Fisherman’s Co-op Building which has undergone a major renovation and revamp.
Bathers Beach House has two general managers, drawing on their extensive experience in the hospitality industry.
Benoit de Francisco has worked in hospitality around the world from France to the US and comes from his most recent posting at The Trustee in Perth.
And with Bathers Beach House being family-owned, Anthony Unmack has also joined the fold as general manager after a long history of working in well-known Fishing Boat Harbour venues including Cicerello’s and Char Char Bull.
English-born Ross Tyre, now residing in Perth with his family, has been appointed head chef, following on from his work in a number of well-known European restaurants including two Michelin Star establishments.
Mr Unmack has nothing but enthusiasm for Bathers Beach House and what it will offer.
“There are stunning ocean views with every table inside able to capture our great west coast landscape,” he said.
“We also have alfresco dining on the building’s northern side with lots of seating on beautiful recycled teak from Papua New Guinea.
“The upstairs function space is already attracting lots of attention for those wanting to host weddings and other functions.
“It will be able to host larger events on the whole first floor with smaller events possibly occupying one of the terraces on either end of the building.”
Mr de Francisco added: “Bathers Beach House also has beach lounges nearby – a first for WA –which can be serviced from the restaurant with food and beverage, excluding alcohol for the moment.”
In terms of the menu, Mr Tyre said the focus was on quality casual dining with options for people to enjoy share-plates or have traditional two or three-course meals.
“We’ve ensured there is a range of options, including local seafood and dishes with an Australian twist, so everyone should be able to find something they love.
“The menu has been purposely written using language people can understand rather than being filled with dishes they’ve never heard of.
“A selection of the best local craft beer is on tap with pints starting from $9 and there is a thoughtful wine list with classic and modern options and lots of excellent small producer wines, as well as an extensive cocktail list.”
Mr de Francisco described it as a well-priced food and drinks menu, offering some of the best value in Perth.
“We also have a kiosk providing simple easy snacks, cold drinks, soft serve ice-cream, juices, smoothies and coffee, all to take away,” he said.
Bathers Beach House is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week. Breakfast will also be on offer shortly after the launch.
The restaurant is not initially taking reservations – but managers say with more than 300 seats on offer, getting a spot will not be difficult.

Bathers Beach House in Fremantle is now open for business, ready to deliver a new era in beachside dining.
Bathers Beach House
Bathers Beach House is Perth's only absolute beachfront restaurant, bar and function space, three steps from the beautiful white sands of Bathers Beach in Fremantle.
We are thrilled to be able to re-invigorate this long neglected part of Fremantle and hope the immediate residents, Fremantle locals and the wider community can again enjoy this fabulous beach and new venue.
Bathers Beach House is a spectacular new two-level venue and will occupy approximately one-third of the fully renovated Fremantle Fisherman’s Co-operative Building. The ground level will house a dining space and bar areas. We will have a quintessentially Australian flavour to the menu, a wide range of local craft beers plus international favourites together with an eclectic range of local wines and a few international additions. The first floor has an amazing panoramic view along the coast and will be a flexible functions space that can be used for almost any occasion. Downstairs will cater for 270 people while upstairs could cater for as many as 330 people.
The northern side of Bathers Beach House will feature alfresco dining areas plus, to service the increased usage of the entire precinct, we will also be offering a kiosk service from the northern side of the building.
