Ashmore, QLD Australia – Opaltone Australasia Pty. Ltd. (OA) today announced that printers wishing to use Opaltone (expanded gamut printing technology) no longer require an Opaltone printer license.

"We’re very excited about this announcement," said Opaltone Managing Director Steve Holman. "With the release of Opaltone VK® Inkjet, this proactive decision forms part of our business reorganisation and overall marketing strategy to remove the ‘cost’ barrier between the print buyer and printer."

The previous TAA (license) program has been replaced with an optional certification program called – OT7 Certification.

"Printers wishing to undergo the one-off OT7 certification process can now do so by contacting their regional Opaltone office," Holman added.

OA encourages OT7 certified printers to use the Opaltone trademark as a unique way to advertise their capability to print Opaltone.

OA removed the license requirement for printers in part due to the demand for cost-effective and sustainable packaging. Opaltone eliminates the need for mix-in-the-can spot colours, thus significantly reducing spot colour inks (and waste solvent) from press wash-ups, which ultimately ends as toxic land fill. This is an important environmental step in achieving sustainable packaging printing.

OA recognizes the continued demand and fully supports the various Government bodies and National Packaging Covenant in its attempts to make packaging more environmentally sustainable.

Printers requiring assistance in specifying a press for suitability to the Opaltone process can simply contact OA for the relative OT7 technical information, including dot-gain, print densities, anilox and ink standards. OA will provide all necessary information to assist the printer in achieving a satisfactory result.
