Today’s announcement by the Federal Government that South Australia will have two Primary Health Networks has been welcomed by the Northern Adelaide Medicare Local (NAML).
Chief Executive Officer Deb Lee said the NAML looked forward to the continuation of primary health care service delivery in the metropolitan and country regions of South Australia.
“We currently provide services to more than 400,000 people who live in council areas spanning Playford, Salisbury, Tea Tree Gully, Gawler, Mallala and part of Port Adelaide Enfield,” Ms Lee said.
“We’re a passionate and dedicated team that has worked solidly to address gaps in service delivery across our region.
“We’ve delivered mental health, Aboriginal health and IT services firstly through the Adelaide Northern Division of General Practice, then through the Northern Health Network and finally via NAML for more than 20 years.
“Our extensive range of services in mental health has enjoyed a seamless transition, while our delivery of culturally appropriate and safe services in Aboriginal Health has resulted in mutual trust and respect.
“We see our voice as critical to the overall success of South Australia’s new PHNs.
“We will always bring our unrivalled passion and commitment as we support, develop, build capacity and work collaboratively to ensure all primary health care providers and the community are involved in determining how best to improve services in the region and fill the gaps,” Ms Lee said.
NAML is an independent, not for profit, non-government organisation that has diverse funding streams.
“Our intention has always been to remain in this space and continue the great work we’ve been doing, collaborating with our partners, ensuring the voice of the whole community is heard and delivering quality services in our region,” Ms Lee said.
“We’re steadfast in our commitment to ensuring people in the north have access to good quality coordinated care and have a choice in where they receive services.
“The NAML intends to be a part of a collaborative partnership tender bid for the SA PHNs.”
