Joint-venture heralds a new competitive force in the Aviation, Tourism & Transport for Strategy and Transformation Advisory

Sydney, 12 September 2014:  In a move that marks the creation of a re-energised leading provider of Strategic Advisory Services and IT Infrastructure Development for the Aviation, Tourism and Transport sectors, Aspirion International (Aspirion) and DEM Australasia (DEM) today announced that they have completed implementation of their joint venture which was agreed earlier this year.  The joint venture sees the creation of the new entity DEM Aspirion Limited, based at DEM’s Hong Kong office.  The new business will continue to trade as Aspirion and will undergo a brand refresh, global expansion and include an expanded team of leading industry specialists.

Speaking about the decision of the two businesses to form the new venture, Managing Director of DEM, Damien Hodgkinson, said that - “both companies agreed that staying at the forefront of the industry meant taking proactive steps to respond to the changing market landscape, and to capitalise on the growth opportunities presented by the pioneering achievements delivered by Aspirion over the past 11 years in the aviation and tourism sectors, especially in China, Australia and throughout Asia-Pacific – the aviation and tourism world’s fastest growing region”.

“The dynamics of the airline, tourism and transport sectors see them going through constant change, and with change there is always opportunity,” Mr. Hodgkinson explained. “Significant opportunities exist to expand Aspirion’s expertise to advise and develop initiatives on behalf of airlines, airports, tourism operators, destinations and governments on a more global basis.  Couple that with DEM’s, operational management expertise, strategy planning, and business intelligence capabilities we recognised that it was an opportunity for us to leverage off our combined experience, capability and networks.  Linking the business with DEM’s regional office in Hong Kong will further support Aspirion’s growing global services in both China and the rest of Asia-Pacific.

“After working closely together for more than six months now, DEM and Aspirion have proven that the complimentary fit between the two businesses is strong and sustainable” said Scott Gustetter on behalf of Aspirion.  “After restructuring the Aspirion business earlier this year, we have had one of our most profitable years and are now working on key projects with clients in Australia, Europe and North America.  Both companies are looking to the future in terms of operating models, geographic opportunities, as well as substantial investment in technology and infrastructure. The combination of Aspirion’s existing and potential customer base, the growth opportunities presented by Aspirion’s achievements, and the skill set and experience of the DEM team and the Aspirion team were too hard to ignore and we know we can achieve significantly more through joining the two teams together,” he said.

Damien Hodgkinson will become Managing Director of the joint venture, while Scott Gustetter will become Chairman.

Mr Hodgkinson said “some key objectives of the joint venture are to expand Aspirion’s aviation advisory service offering in terms of skill set and geographic coverage; it will also be to leverage DEM’s strategy and data management expertise to enhance and develop Aspirion’s Market Analyser software to more aviation and tourism customers as well as the broader transport sector.”

“In order to achieve our objectives we will continue to build a world-leading team of proven industry specialists,” said Mr. Hodgkinson. Leading the Sydney office and the technology practice will be Andrew Wreford from DEM and formerly of Booz & Co. “Andrew brings a wealth of knowledge in business and IT strategy and transformation. He will focus on growing our business and technology services ensuring the alignment of client needs with their strategic focus”.

Aspirion also welcomes Christina Cassotis to Aspirion’s new global skills advisory panel.  For the past 16 years, Ms Cassotis worked for ICF-SH&E helping shape its airport consulting practice.  Most recently Ms Cassotis was a Vice-President and Managing Officer of ICF-SH&E’s Airport Services based in Boston.  Christina is joined by Christopher “C” Mandel, who for the past 7 years was the Competition and Policy Analyst for the US Department of Transportation. “Both Christina and C bring a wealth of global aviation industry experience which will further add to the strength to Aspirion’s aviation experience and capability,” Mr Hodgkinson said.

“Aspirion will focus on bringing specialist advisers from diverse locations and service specialities to its clients in its virtual “WAR” rooms levelling the runway to ensure that you know not just what’s going on in your region, but what will be leading practice across the globe, not just today but tomorrow,” said Mr Hodgkinson.
