For years we heard tales of the “Boys Club” lunches, and the secret business transacted there. Adelaide’s very own DIVA Club was launched in 2007 as partly a tribute to that magnificent female, Makybe Diva, but mostly a tribute to the members – the 200+ ladies that attend our luncheon each year.
The purpose of the DIVA Club is to meet at least once a year; to enjoy very good company, food and wine, and generally to have a good time. As an added bonus, we donate all profits of the Annual DIVA Club Ladies Luncheon to Kidsafe in South Australia.
Kidsafe SA is a charitable organisation dedicated to the prevention of unintentional death and serious injury to South Australian children. For more than thirty years Kidsafe have been applying evidence-based prevention and early intervention practices to target and effect behavioural changes that reduce serious childhood accidents and unintentional deaths.
As stated by the World Health Organisation & UNICEF (2008) ‘Every day around the world the lives of families are torn apart by the loss of a child to unintentional injury or so-called ‘accidents’ that could have been prevented. The grief that these families suffer – mothers, fathers, siblings, grandparents and friends – is immeasurable and often impacts on entire communities. Such tragedy can change lives irrevocably’.
Injury is still the leading cause of death in Australian children aged one to fourteen years, accounting for nearly half of all deaths in this age group. More children die of injury in Australia than of cancer, asthma and infectious diseases combined. There is still much more work to be done to reduce this burden on our most vulnerable.
This year’s ‘The Great Gatsby’ themed luncheon is being held from 11.30am on Friday 19th September, at the recently re-furbished The Ellington (previously The Observatory). Having just undergone extensive renovations, The Ellington evokes the spirit of the 1920s in a contemporary setting. As is customary, there will be a fashion parade, music, great food and wine and an opportunity to have a girl’s day out, while raising money to support the work of Kidsafe in SA.
Tickets for the event are available for $110 per person including 4-course luncheon, Jansz champagne and wines. The generosity from local businesses underpins our fundraising efforts and we would like to thank our major supporters and partners this year including The Highway Hotel, Jansz, Sidewood Estate, B.-d. Farm Paris Creek, Loca Bella and Springfree Trampolines.
The Annual DIVA Club Ladies Luncheon is organised by the Kidsafe SA Fundraising Committee Members – a group of dedicated, volunteer Adelaide ladies committed to the cause.

Kidsafe SA is an independant, charitable organisation dedicated to the prevention of unintentional death and serious injury to South Australian children. For more than thirty years Kidsafe have been applying evidence-based prevention and early intervention practices to target and effect behavioural changes that reduce serious childhood accidents and unintentional deaths from driveway runovers, drowning, burns and scalds, children in motor vehicle accidents as passengers and pedestrians, SIDS and fatal sleeping accidents, button battery ingestion... just to name a few. We are located in the Women's and Children's Hospital in North Adelaide and work at a grass-roots level dealing with parents, carers and families on a daily basis.
