A joint venture between ACCIONA Agua and TRILITY (ATJV) has won the prestigious Civil Contractors Federation (CCF) Earth Award for its work on the Mundaring Water Treatment Project.
The Mundaring Water Treatment Project was implemented by Helena Water, comprising TRILITY, ACCIONA Agua and Lloyds Bank (now Aberdeen Asset Management) under an agreement with Water Corporation of Western Australia.
Helena Water contracted to ATJV the design, construction and commissioning of the facilities. ATJV undertook the design in cooperation with engineering group GHD, and managed construction of the plant with Brookfield Multiplex, who was the on-site constructor.
Following completion of the construction phase, ATJV now operates and maintains the plant and pump station under a 35 year agreement with Helena Water.
The plant, located on a redeveloped 13.6 hectare site 30km east of Perth, is the exclusive source of potable water for around 33,000 rural and town services. It guarantees a safe, secure and long-term supply of water into Western Australia’s Wheatbelt and Goldfields Regions.
Located near Mundaring Weir, the plant has a current designed capacity of 165 million litres per day, and an ultimate expandable capacity of 240 million litres per day.
ATJV Chairman David Taylor said the project had won a number of significant awards through the construction period and all those associated with the joint venture were proud to have been recognised in the CCF’s 2014 Earth Awards Excellence in Civil Construction category for a project with a capital value greater than $75 million.
Mr Taylor said the Mundaring Water Treatment Project was an exemplar of best practice from a construction and environmental management perspective.
“We are thrilled the Mundaring Water Treatment Project has been formally acknowledged by the CCF,” Mr Taylor said.
“ATJV is dedicated to the task of delivering services that exceed our mandate and is focused on achieving goals that go well beyond the terms of our service.”
The project was officially honoured at a CCF ceremony in Perth on 8 August, 2014.
