GAP MEDICS LAUNCHES AUSTRALIAN SUMMER SPECIAL
UK-based international hospital work experience provider Gap Medics has launched its 2015 Australian Summer Special in Tanzania.
The special will run from December to January, and is designed specifically to cater to Australian students who are interested in pursuing a career in medicine.
The program offers the opportunity for students to get relevant experience in a global context, before completing their UAC or direct university application. Student Kyle O’Neil from Victoria said: "This was an unparalleled experience, which I would highly recommend! There is nothing that comes close to the possibilities offered through this program. Gap Medics gave me a true insight into medicine, in particular healthcare in a developing nation."
The program allows students to spend time shadowing fully qualified medical professionals, observe routine cases and surgery, and learn about the prevention and treatment of tropical diseases.
Each student receives at least 23 hours of clinical shadowing per week, supported by experienced healthcare professionals who act as their mentors. Popular departments include: surgery, obstetrics, internal medicine and paediatrics.
Students live in secure and private accommodation, complete with a full-time staff team.
Gap Medics Business Development Director, Mark Hinksman said 'Our customer base in Australia is growing fast – we are delighted to offer a programme specifically aimed at Australian students'.

Gap Medics is a specialist company dedicated to providing year-round hospital work experience placements abroad to students between the ages of 16–25 to help them gain valuable experience to apply for medical school.
Gap Medics offers short-term programmes in Tanzania, Czech Republic and Thailand where students can undertake placements in pre-medicine, pre-nursing, pre-midwifery and pre-dentistry. These placements are designed to give students an insight into the work of healthcare professionals before they begin their clinical training. Students will gain that beneficial experience to help them with university applications and interviews, or simply give them an insight into whether this is the career route they wish to go down before dedicating themselves to years of study.
