When the Federal Government announced a plan to censor the internet in Australia, it met with substantial resistance. But few of us realised that internet censorship is already alive and well on Australian websites.

Kelly Nelson was astounded when she was banned from a popular wedding forum after posting about her negative experience with a particular supplier. Through further research she discovered that many discussion forums in Australia are merely traffic-generating devices for lucrative advertising directories.

"Many of these sites have a no-negative-feedback policy," she explains, "which is designed to enhance the reputations of their advertisers and protect the site's revenue stream."

Her inability to find a forum where she could freely discuss her wedding planning experiences, good and bad, led to the creation of the SaySo Community.

"I spoke to many friends and family members and discovered that they were all interested in joining a site where they could initiate and respond to interesting discussions on a wide range of topics."

http://www.sayso.com.au was launched in March 2010, with separate forums dedicated to Weddings, Parenting & Families and the Over 50s.

Already the forums have attracted considerable interest and traffic is building rapidly.

"The SaySo forums are free of advertising," says Kelly, "and we've had a lot of feedback telling us that people appreciate that. We are all bombarded with so many advertising messages each day that spending time at a SaySo forum is a welcome escape for our members."
