Friday, May 2nd, 2014 - ChildFund Australia

ChildFund Australia has today launched The Big Ask, Australia’s biggest trivia challenge to fight global child poverty.

From 16-22 June 2014, ChildFund Australia is calling on all Australians to host a trivia event and raise money to help children living in some of the poorest parts of the world.

All money raised from The Big Ask will support ChildFund’s programs to help children overcome poverty and reach their full potential. Funds will be used to provide vital resources such as mosquito nets for children in Uganda and Zambia, educational scholarships for orphaned children in Sri Lanka and clean drinking water for preschool children in Vietnam.

Rachel Murphy, ChildFund Australia’s community fundraising manager, said trivia events are a popular and easy way for Australians to actively give back to those in need.

“The Big Ask is challenging Australians not only on their trivia knowledge, but also to contribute to an important cause. This is an engaging way for fundraisers to come together with friends, family and colleagues to create a positive difference for children living in poverty around the world.

“You can host a trivia event at the office over lunch or after work; it’s great for classrooms or the entire school. Families can host a trivia event at home or ask your local pub or club whether you can use one of their function rooms to host a bigger event. With a few friends or colleagues on board to help you out, plus all the free resources ChildFund will provide, you’ll have everything you need to make it fun and easy,” Ms. Murphy said.

Nigel Spence, ChildFund Australia CEO, said that significant progress is being made to reduce poverty for children around the world but many children still lack access to education, health care, safe drinking water and nutritious food.

“The Big Ask is an opportunity for all Australians to help raise vital funds to continue the fight against global child poverty. Your efforts will make a life-changing difference to some of the world’s most vulnerable children,” said Mr. Spence.

All Australians can register to host a trivia event through The Big Ask website, including schools, workplaces, pubs, clubs, individuals, families and community groups. After registration, participants will receive everything they need to make their trivia event a success, from a comprehensive toolkit to a free online ticketing system that enables individuals or groups to easily create an event page and sell tickets, plus invitation and poster templates, trivia questions and more.

Why get involved in The Big Ask trivia challenge?

  • It’s an easy way to put on a fun event for your friends, family or colleagues.
  • You will be raising funds to help children living in some of the poorest parts of the world.
  • You will be able to share with everyone who supports your event exactly how the money has been used so you can all see the tangible differences you’ve made together.
