Australian Independent Lining Distributors (AILD), Australia’s leading buying group for independent plasterboard and accessories distributors, has announced it will be advertising a tender for the supply of plasterboard, compounds and related products and services to its members.
AILD works by leveraging the volume of its membership base to secure advantageous agreements with suppliers, such as significant cost savings on materials and services. It has approximately 60 stores nationally as part of its membership base, with around 25 committed to the contract.
It is expected that the chosen supplier will supply around 12 million square metres of plasterboard in total.
Michael Reid, Managing Director of AILD, says the move is unprecedented and reflects the changing market conditions. "It's significant as it is the first time anyone has managed to get a group of store owners to commit to a tender result. The fact is that the trading environment has changed, and as a result this opportunity can be explored for the first time.
“We have already received interest from local and international manufacturers. It’s certainly a fantastic opportunity for suppliers as the chosen applicant will receive a guaranteed volume if they meet the conditions of tender,” he explained.
AILD will begin advertising for proposal requests from plasterboard manufacturers and major plasterboard resellers on the 19th March. The term of the agreement is an initial three-year term with options to extend the term at the discretion of AILD for a further two x one-year increments. The closing date for applications is 4pm Monday 14th April 2014.
