Sydney, NSW – ETCorp have been recognised for pioneering use of broadband at the 2010 Australian Telecommunications Users Group (ATUG) National Broadband Awards held in Sydney.

The GPAC System™ picked up the award for the Effective use of Broadband in the Category of Government. An independent panel of judges, chaired by ATUG Vice Chairman Paul Morris, awarded first place to the GPAC System™, which uses a combination of wireless and wired broadband to provide an integrated remote monitoring solution able to respond effectively in real time and disseminate information to the proper authorities such as the police, resulting in speedy and efficient responses.

The new broadband-based solution provided by the GPAC System™ has enabled the City of Belmont, Western Australia to lead the way in establishing a partnership with local businesses, the community and police; helping all parties to work together to reduce crime.

ETCorp CEO Martin Cebis said the award demonstrated how technology can help solve social problems. “Applications of the GPAC System™ include community safety, crime prevention and environmental monitoring with the recognition for ETCorp highlighting how the use of broadband contributes to the wellbeing of our society,” he said.

Mr Cebis also said that the award was a nod for the importance of government support for innovation and investment in broadband. “Last year the WA Department of Environment and Conservation won the ATUG award for the best use of broadband in government using our product. With this second award for the GPAC System™ in government applications it’s great to see that as well as the general public, Local, State and Federal government are now directly reaping the efficiency benefits from supporting innovative technology companies.”

As Australia heads into the National Broadband Network and the emerging Digital Economy, the 2010 award winners point to the power of advanced communications services and broadband in making a real difference by developing innovations based on broadband.
