Game 1 of the 2014 State of Origin series marks a huge anniversary as it will be the 100th game of State of Origin. In the first game of State of Origin played, the late great Artie Beetson led the mighty Maroons out onto the Cauldron to one of the loudest roars ever.
The State of Origin series is to many people the highlight on the annual rugby league calendar and a feature event in Australian sport. With less than 100 days the 2014 State of Origin series kicks off there are plenty of reasons for rugby league fans to be looking forward to the series.
Maroons fans will be salivating at the possibility of a prospective 9th year as the State of Origin champions and Blues players hoping to end their drought. There were plenty of encouraging signs for Blues fans in last years series but they will still be up against a Maroons team full of confidence.
The State of Origin Series is always one of Australia’s premier sporting events, with tickets for the games always in high demand. Rugby League season came into the spotlight on the weekend with the inaugural Auckland Nines competition. It proved to be very popular with fans and players. All sixteen NRL clubs competed with two Queensland based teams Brisbane Broncos and North Queensland Cowboys contesting the final. The Cowboys took out the title which featured some of the world’s best Rugby League talents.
The popularity of the tournament is already giving a flow on effect in other areas of Rugby League including State of Origin. Russell Edwards, of EP Marketing, is licensed to sell corporate packages at State of Origin games in Brisbane. Mr Edwards said that in the couple of days since the nines tournament he has already seen a noticeable increase in demand for the exclusive packages he has available for the 2014 series. According to Mr Edwards, the Auckland Nines tournament has brought rugby league back into the spotlight for 2014. “Yeah, the tournament was tremendous entertainment. I think it put a spark in a lot of rugby league fans for a great year ahead and State of Origin is a big part of the rugby league year. With tickets for the nines selling out weeks before the event I think anyone hoping to attend State of Origin this year realised they better secure their spot now. The fact that it’s less than 100 days to Game 1 may have snuck up on a few people but with rugby league season under way the keen interest in the series this year is now well and truly rising.”
The corporate packages available this year from EP Marketing include the opportunity to watch the game with QLD State of Origin legends Michael Crocker and Ashley Harrison. All corporate guests will also receive a personalised Qld Maroons jersey and the privilege of going out onto the sacred playing arena of the “Cauldron”, Suncorp Stadium before the game.
