Thursday, November 1st, 2007 - SABRENet Ltd

South Australian ultra-high capacity broadband company SABRENet Ltd is delighted to announce the appointment of ICT industry veteran Bruce Linn as an independent director.
SABRENet connects the South Australian and global research communities using dark fibre carrying data at 10 gigabits per second. The company is a partnership between the three Adelaide universities - Adelaide, South Australia and Flinders, the South Australian Government and the Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO).
Mr Linn has a career-long involvement in the research and education (R&E) sector, from the earliest days of the internet services industry in Australia as CEO of successful University of Adelaide spin-off company Camtech. Mr Linn has also gained R&E experience as a current member of the Finance Committee and Council of UniSA and earlier in his career as a contractor to the Defence Science Technology Organisation (DSTO)
"Broadband has been a passion of mine for more than decade," Mr Linn said. "In the mid-`90s, Camtech started providing commercial internet services and we could see even then that the lack of true high-speed broadband was going to become an issue over the next few years.
"SABRENet is one of Australia's first attempts to advance to world best practice broadband infrastructure deployment for the R&E sector, offering ultra-high speed services across the metropolitan area, and from there to the world through the national AARNet research network. I am excited to be joining the company during its expansion into non-university education sectors as well as the Industrial R&E sector."
Welcoming Mr Linn to the board, Chair Paul Sherlock said that SABRENet was actively seeking opportunities to bring the benefits of unlimited bandwidth to the research and education sector in South Australia
"Bruce brings his business acumen and wealth of experience in the ICT sector and education sector to SABRENet," Mr Sherlock said.
An experienced Director, Mr Linn formerly headed the EDS operation in South Australia, and is currently the CEO of Adelaide law firm, Finlaysons. His other board positions include chair of Community Information Strategies Australia (CISA Inc), and board member of St Peters Collegiate Girls School Inc.
