The opportunity is now available for the Sunshine Coast community to have their say on the proposed development scheme for the Maroochydore City Centre Priority Development Area (PDA).

Sunshine Coast Mayor Mark Jamieson said the establishment of Maroochydore as the regional centre for employment, economic activity and civic facilities has moved a step closer with the proposed development scheme now available for comment.

“Residents, the business community and interested parties are invited to have their say on the significant planning that has been undertaken to guide the development of the new city centre,” Mayor Jamieson said.

“The proposed development scheme is the draft planning document which sets out the land uses, development criteria and infrastructure delivery for the Maroochydore City Centre Priority Development Area.

“The development of the city centre will be a major boost for investment confidence in our region and will establish Maroochydore as the leading business, employment and community services hub, which is what the region is seeking to achieve through its new economic development strategy.”

Regional Projects Portfolio Councillor Tim Dwyer said the proposed development scheme, once approved, will allow council to create a new central business district for the Sunshine Coast.

“Council’s $42 million investment to acquire the 53-hectare Horton Park Golf Club site allows for the building of much needed infrastructure, enabling Council to improve current traffic issues and provide for future transport needs in Maroochydore, and over time, develop a civic, commercial, cultural and recreational core for the region,” Cr Dwyer said.

“Council will be on the Horton Park Golf Club site in July this year to ensure early works on the new city centre can commence, with the initial focus on operational works and the delivery of key infrastructure, such as road accesses and major services.

“I encourage the community to have their say on the proposed development scheme for the Maroochydore City Centre PDA, as this project will be instrumental in building and strengthening our region.”

The proposed development scheme for the Maroochydore City Centre Priority Development Area is on public notification from Friday 31 January 2014 until Monday 17 March 2014, with the community invited to view and comment on the scheme.
