Australian Independent car hire companies seem to be getting the message from their customers and are teaming up with, to offer their customers a lower cost car rental excess cover.

General manager and co-founder, Desmond Sherlock has signed up a number of independent or micro car rental companies such as Jeepz Car Hire (Gold Coast), Windsor Sports Car Hire  (Melbourne) and Adelaide Hills Touring, all selling a low cost version of car rental excess cover to reduce their customer’s excess liability and stress.

Car rental excess reduction insurance or CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) which is offered by the major car rental companies at a cost from $25 to $35 and can end up costing as much as the rental car itself.

“We have been in the online car rrental business for some 15 years and we know that this issue is the  number one pain in the butt for most car rental customers and that is why we have decided to just focus on solving this problem alone. Our rates start at $9 and reduces to around $5 over 15 days and we cover ALL incidences such as windscreens, overhead and  undercarriage damage, single and multi vehicle accidents, tyres and theft.”

Tripcover has been in partnership with Allianz Global Assistance for the last 2 years with a number of policy offerings in Australia, New Zealand and for Australians going overseas.

“We are now starting to get some real traction, selling over 550 policies last month, with sales doubling every 6 months”.

“I have also approached a number of the major car rental companies such as Thrifty and Hertz with the proposal for them to offer their customers the chance to purchase a low cost version AS WELL as their premeium (CDW) cover. Unfortunately they seem to be very keen on maintaining the near monopoly that they have had for the last 30 years in this area. The Tripcover founders seem just as determined to disrupt this monopoly. I guess this is another space to watch.

A Bit about Tripcover
