About Kicktone: Kicktone is a free, social music discovery platform. Unlike iTunes or Spotify, Kicktone supports artists by not charging them to upload or share their music. It streamlines the discovery experience for fans of indie music, making it easy for them to find music that they - and their friends - will love.
Why this is important:   Kicktone is set to change the face of music discovery worldwide; Australian business competes on global stage; Kicktone is a graduate of Australia’s ANZ Innovyz START business accelerator program.

ADELAIDE, JANUARY 2, 2014:  In the latter part of 2013, the CEO of young startup , was invited to apply for the pitching competition at the music industry’s biggest networking event, Midem. Convinced that Kicktone wouldn’t even be considered, he knocked off a quick application, and submitted it.

In early December, he had the wind knocked out of him by the news that Kicktone had made it through to the finals. Filled with excitement, the key team members of Kicktone bought tickets to Midem. And then set about trying to find the best way of funding their air fares.

This is just the latest in a series of exciting events for Kicktone. However, it marks a potential growth point for the young startup. It is also a key moment for Australia’s participation on the global music industry stage.

Kicktone is the only Australian startup to be accepted into the finals of Midemlab... ever. This event features the most innovative startups operating in entertainment. Midemlab proposes the latest digital innovations that help music executives, artists, and brands to engage and monetise audiences. This function is across territories, which is what Kicktone needs to really make its mark.

CEO Savvas Dimitriou is enormously excited by the opportunity.

“Pitching to investors at Midemlab is one of the best opportunities that Kicktone could have hoped for,” he said. “Not only will it give us exposure at the world’s biggest music industry networking event, but it will really test us in the scope of a truly global stage.”

The benefits of pitching in the finals of Midemlab are multifold. They include the opportunity to meet and get feedback from potential business partners and investors, and the chance to see what other startups are at the same level. But it also gives Kicktone the chance to get personalised coaching from some of the world’s top marketing leadership teams prior to the pitch.

“The thing that really reinforces our confidence is that Kicktone is a truly innovative platform,” said Dimitriou. “And one with fantastic ability and options to scale. What excites us is that Midemlab has been the launchpad of startups that we all now know and love, including SoundCloud, Songkick, and Kickstarter… to name just a few. Come February, we hope to be able to add Kicktone to that list.”
