This week is an extremely busy time of year for Vinnies volunteers as they sort through approximately $250,000 worth of toys and gifts collected via the Motorcycle Riders’ Association (MRA) Toy Run, for children and young adults from across the State who experience disadvantage. These generously donated gifts will then be distributed by Vinnies volunteers to ensure every child in need will experience the joy of having a gift under their Christmas tree this year.
At what is a time of joy and celebration for many of us, far too many Australians face the prospect of a bleak Christmas as they struggle to pay their bills and provide the basics for their family, let alone cope with the extra costs associated with Christmas.
Vinnies’ South Australian State President Brian Spencer says that it is crucial South Australians continue to support people who are doing it tough.
“Australians are characterised by being generous and lending a helping hand to people who are struggling.”
Mr Spencer continues “This year we have received twice the requests for toys from last year. The reality is that without the support of the community, we would not be able to assist families who have turned to us this Christmas and many children would not have a gift to wrap on Christmas day. As important as it is for the child to experience the joy of receiving a gift at Christmas, this act also affords parents dignity. To be able to provide your child with a gift at Christmas is something every parent hopes they can do.”
In short supply are gifts for older children particularly aged 10 – 16 years old.
Vinnies is encouraging those who can to make a financial contribution at any of the Vinnies stores (33 state wide) or at a BankSA branch (120 state wide) or IGA store (112 state wide).
Vinnies would like to thank the support shown to them by the numerous corporate sponsors who have generously donated gifts and even lent a hand in sorting the collected toys.
Thousands of children have a brighter Christmas thanks to the generosity of the South Australian Community.
Please donate to the Vinnies Christmas Appeal so that we can continue to change lives every day. To show your support and make a donation visit your local IGA store or BankSA branch today.
